Description:
At Georgetown University's 'Villa Le Balze' the academic year is structured in two semesters for undergraduate students: Fall (September to December) and Spring (January to April). The two semesters offer a different course of studies allowing students to opt also for a full academic year. The average number of students per semester is 27. During the summer special courses are offered for undergraduate and graduate students. The summer programs are limited to 21 students.

A unique aspect of the academic program at Villa Le Balze is its interdisciplinary course of studies focusing on the manifold aspects of Italian society and civilization. Courses are offered in Italian Language, Art History, History, Literature, Film, Government, and Sociology. All courses are taught in English, with the exception of the Italian language courses. A background in Italian, though not required, is highly recommended and will enhance a student's experience

The Villa Le Balze semester programs are accessible for students from all faculties and departments who want to expand their academic curricula and enrich their cultural experience. Summer programs may have more specific requirements. Access to a program is subject to an admission procedure

For all courses, credits are awarded by Georgetown University and, with prior approval from the student's dean and/or departmental advisor, they fulfill requirements for the degree and, where appropriate, for the major. Grades transfer into the grade point average for Georgetown University students. The Villa Le Balze program also welcomes students from other American universities and colleges. No degree or certificate is conferred.

In addition to the semester and summer programs, Villa Le Balze also offers two study tours for alumni/ae, parents, students, and friends of Georgetown. These tours may be taken for credit with prior approval from the student's dean.

Applicants should visit our website, www.villalebalze.org, or email villainfo@georgetown.edu for more information and an application for any of the programs offered at Villa Le Balze.
